Justin Edinburgh was thrilled to see Luke Norris break his home duck on Sunday.

The striker scored Gillingham’s third in a 3-1 victory over Notts County at Priestfield.

All six of Norris’ previous goals, along with his best performances, have come on away soil.

His seventh and final goal of the season came infront of the Rainham End and Edinburgh feels it will do the 21-year-old striker the world of good.

Boss Edinburgh said: “Luke Norris hadn’t scored here and it doesn’t matter how mentally strong you are or what kind of character you are, that will affect you.

“The away support will have seen the best of Luke Norris but the home fans perhaps haven’t.

“When you are a striker you are really judged on your goals. For him to get that and leave here, making sure he has broken his duck, that will stand him in real good stead.”

Norris ended the season with seven goals from 17 starts, with his other 27 appearances coming from the bench.

One of those goals, a stunning volley against Sheffield United, earned him the goal-of-the-season trophy.

Edinburgh is no doubts that he has a talented player on the club’s books.

“I think the boy is a talent, I really do,” he said.

“He has got a lot to give and a lot to learn but he certainly has the ingredients to be a good striker.”
