Justin Edinburgh felt Tuesday night’s point at Rochdale was fully deserved.

The Gills had to come back from a goal down in the match between two sides battling over a League 1 play-off place.

He said: “We deserved the point and we started the game well. We had a good early chance and the keeper made a save from Bradley Dack. A month ago he would have dispatched that.

“We knew we had to be strong against a Rochdale side who have been on a resurgent run of late. They had an excellent performance at home against Blackpool on Saturday.

“We haven’t been in fine form ourselves so we came with the three at the back and the five across the middle, put Dack up front, and at times before they got the goal I thought we were threatening as well.

“It was an even first half and we were devastated to go in a goal down.”

Rochdale's goal came shortly before the half-time interval.

Edinburgh said: “The goal hurt us and left us to be exposed and to chase the game.

“We knew that Rochdale could pick us off and we were reliant on our keeper to make some good saves. Once we got the goal I felt maybe we could go on and nick it but it was a fair result.

“I always feel we have goals in us and John Egan popped up with a good goal and then the momentum swung back our way.

“Their keeper tipped an effort over the bar and we looked like something might drop for us. It perhaps isn’t dropping for us so we have to make our own luck and we will continue to do that.

“Again, the group of players have shown the resilience and courage and desire to get back into the game and we were worthy of the draw.”
