Gillingham Football Club remains open for investment but chairman Paul Scally insists he won’t sell the club’s soul.
Mr Scally has watched from afar as other clubs have been damaged by foreign investment and is determined that won’t happen at Priestfield.
He’s currently in talks with figures that could bring wealth to the club but the chairman insists it’s a cautious game he’s playing.
Mr Scally, celebrating 20 years in charge this summer, said: “It is clear that there are a lot of people I have talked to who probably wouldn’t be right for Gillingham Football Club because they don’t get the football side.
“They are all keen to be involved in the development side of the club, with a new stadium, but they don’t have any real concern, feeling, or view on the football club.
“It has been quite difficult to find anyone who is keen on football and that would be caring and conscientious to the club.
“We are talking to a few people, all of those people insist that I stay, which I am very happy to do. I don’t have any wish to leave the job half done.
“If I find the right investor then we can move forward quicker than we otherwise would do. I am quite optimistic that something will happen but if it doesn’t we will carry on. We have lots of plans.
“There are lots of changes that people will see and I am quite excited whichever way it goes.”
