Gillingham chairman Paul Scally believes Justin Edinburgh has proved to be the perfect choice as manager

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally believes that Justin Edinburgh is proving to be the perfect fit.
A change of manager mid-season wasn’t followed by the customary change of backroom staff and Mr Scally believes that stability is key to the club’s progression.
Edinburgh arrived in February to work alongside a management team already in place.
Mr Scally, who fired former boss Peter Taylor at the end of 2014, said: “There was a huge debate in my mind as to whether we should leave things as they were, with the gang of four and whether we needed to do anything until the end of the season, or at all.
“We will never know the answer to that. We took the view that Justin was the man we most preferred and felt he was the man who would fit into the current management team best without having to make any real changes.
“It was a two-way thing and a bit of a forced marriage. Forced marriages are always quite dangerous, as has been shown in the past.
“We were upfront about the fact we felt we had a strong and stable management – and capable. If he understood that and bought into that, then he would work well. If he didn’t, it wouldn’t work.
“He has come in, embraced it and the management team love him. The players like him a lot, the staff like him a lot and he has come in and added that extra bit to the team.
“We didn’t want him to come in and start making management changes because I am confident with the management we have got."
