The two teams will be battling it out for top spot in League 1 but security has been tightened in response to Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

Coventry City have issued a statement requesting that all fans attending the game arrive early and leave their bags at home, to speed up checks going into the ground.

There will be additional searches as supporters enter the Ricoh Arena with extra stewards and police on duty to ensure supporters' safety.

The current UK threat level for international terrorism is severe.

Coventry City safety officer Chris O'Neill said: "After the recent events, the club's safety team and ACL (Arena Coventry Limited) stand firm in our ambitions to make sure that the Ricoh Arena is a safe place to visit.

"We're currently taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of supporters and will require the patience of supporters during additional screening on Saturday.

"With every game, we'd like fans to remain vigilant and review all safety precautions, and urge supporters to speak to any steward if they spot a problem before and during the game."

Coventry are expecting a big crowd to attend the game at their 32,000-seater stadium, for a clash between the top two sides in League 1.

Gillingham took around 500 fans to Coventry on their last visit and are expecting to take more this time around, as their team aim to hold onto top spot in the division.
