Gillingham manager Peter Taylor says it's not his fault that players get injured

Manager Peter Taylor has defended his methods in light of Gillingham’s injury problems and invited supporters to watch them train.

Gills’ injury record under Taylor has been questioned by fans writing on internet forums – including the comments section on our www.kentonline.co.uk website.

But Taylor blames bad luck and insisted he pays no attention to critics.

“I guarantee people like that have never seen a training session in their life,” he said. “I won’t even lower my standards and bite to that one.

“I don’t read that. People can come and watch the training any time they like if they think there’s something that all of a sudden I’m now doing to get injuries.

“Kortney Hause got injured twisting and turning on his own on Saturday. What’s that got to do with training? Stuart Nelson did his thumb from collecting a cross. What’s that got to do with training?

“That’s probably people that are not Peter Taylor fans thinking of reasons why things are not right. Tell them to come and watch a training session.”

Taylor believes Gills are lacking confidence after a 1-0 defeat by Preston on Tuesday night extended their winless run to six matches.

They’re outside the bottom four in League 1 on goal difference ahead of a home game against mid-table Crawley on Saturday.

Taylor said: “If you haven’t won for six matches, you’re not going to be in top form, confidence-wise.Sometimes people will get a little bit negative and lack a little confidence."
