Manager Peter Taylor is determined to keep building on Gillingham’s biggest week of the season so far.

His team ended a run of eight league games without a victory on Saturday after beating Leyton Orient at Priestfield to climb out of the relegation zone.

That win came four days after booking their place in the area semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. His team came from behind in both games and ended both with 10 men.

“We’ve got to keep it going now,” said Taylor. “I told them before (Saturday’s) game that we are good enough to win the match, then another and another and another match.

“We are good enough to do that but we have to show it. We have won a league match and that is important. That was the noisiest and happiest changing room I have seen for a long time.

“I can’t praise the players enough. We got a lot out of Tuesday night because (in the Trophy match at Crawley) we won the game there with 10 men and we needed a win. I am sure we have got a lot out of this one as well. Full credit to them. It wasn’t easy for them and we had to keep bouncing back.

“It will be a happier place here Monday. They probably think they are getting the day off but they aren’t. We will kick on again and look forward to going to Bradford.”
