Peter Taylor believes it’s too early to make a decision on the long-term future of defender Adam Barrett.

The 35-year-old central defender is on loan at League 2 AFC Wimbledon on a deal that runs until January 4.

But Gills boss Taylor will want to assess his options before deciding whether to allow former skipper Barrett to remain at the Dons, possibly for the rest of the season.

“We have to wait and see our situation and what their situation is,” said Taylor.

“I have been quite pleased with what we have done. Kortney Hause did well and so has Max
Ehmer and it just depends on what we have here as well.”

Ehmer is on a loan deal with the Gills, from QPR, until January 3. If he departs, Taylor will want another defender to fill that gap.

Barrett has been a regular at the Dons, since joining them in August. He has played 25 times for the club and helped them reach the third round of the FA Cup.

The Dons landed a plum tie in the draw and will face Premier League Liverpool in the next round but that game, dependent on the television schedule, could take place after Barrett’s current loan deal expires. That may hasten a decision from Taylor.
