We have been working a lot on defending from the front this week.
One thing that will help us is our communication, which is a very big part of football.
It’s something I can do better at on the field, although my team-mates were shouting at me to shut up on Saturday!
We had a free-kick and I was saying ‘are you going to play me in?’ but unfortunately I was speaking too loudly and the opposition could hear.
Communication can win and lose you games – you need to talk. It makes your life easier, and your team-mates’.
When I am playing behind the strikers I can give them information. We are strongest as a unit and it does help.
The forwards are the first line of defence. You have to keep an eye on people and a lot of it comes from talking.
You can’t always see, so those people behind have to give information to those in front. It helps a lot in terms of us doing unnecessary running and distances.
I am naturally fit. When I was younger I used to do a lot of running activities. I did a bit of cross-country when I was younger but I fell out of that when I lost one of the races! I was a sore loser.
Although I haven’t played in a while, I still felt good on Saturday and covered a lot of distance.
We have done a lot work on the forwards and working as a unit – getting across the pitch and knowing where players should be – so that we have a lot of understanding.
It is important for me to know where I should be in terms of when we press and when we drop off, and where I should be making runs.
Last weekend was one of the toughest games we’ve had all season. Burton moved the ball well and that is what affected us a bit. It was a bit of a snatch and grab but we got the three points and that’s the main thing.
I had a chance to score but felt contact as I went to go through and went down. He was the last man and was lucky not to get a red card but we got a penalty from the free-kick and then scored anyway.
It was a weird game. We had seven shots, seven on target, you could see we were much more clinical in our forward play.
I am pleased for Josh Rees to have scored the winner. He has worked so hard and from 2-0 to 2-2, it would have felt like a loss but there is nothing better than scoring a last-minute winner.
We had managed to keep going in the game and that showed our fitness levels, to run the amount we did, and it also showed our character.
In the dressing room we have a lot of character, regardless of if we are down and under pressure. We always seem to bounce back and find a way or solutions to make it right, which is very good.
Injuries for me have been annoying. I had a hamstring and I was trying to force it. The gaffer told me to be honest. He said he would rather I miss one or two games than another 20. I had to be honest with myself and tell him when I am ready.
He can see the way I am moving, if I am sprinting. It was hurting but I was trying to force it.
On Saturday I felt I could sprint and run and get up the pitch. I just have to keep it warm, maintain and manage it. I manage it through the week and strengthen it. I am very explosive off the mark so I need to take care of it.
