It felt great to be back out on the football pitch this week. I played about 65 minutes on Tuesday for the development team and it was good to get out there again.

I did feel a bit sluggish but just to have been involved in a game again, after two months out, felt good.

I know I need to find my feet a bit more and I’ve only been back in full training for a week, or so, but as a building block it went well.

It’s been a mix of emotions for the last few months. I had a hamstring injury previously, came back for two games, and I got another one. There was no indication it would happen again but it was difficult to take.

I remember suffering the injury against Port Vale and coming off feeling I had let everyone down because their goal came from it.

Their player ran in behind and when I opened up to chase him I could feel the hamstring going. I didn’t want to stop but chasing him made it worse and worse.

What helped me was having good people around and Gary the physio has worked hard with me and I have done a lot on my own. You can’t mess around because this is my career.

Previously in my career I have been out for 10 months, with a cruciate injury, and I know the hardest part about being injured is mind over matter. You just have to stay positive.

I’m now easing my way back in and because of the good run we’ve been on, there has been no pressure to rush me back, which has helped.

A while ago we were hovering around the relegation places but the boys have done amazingly well to push us up the league. That has taken the pressure off me.
