The Shouting Men: Gillingham's on-loan Chelsea midfielder Jordan Houghton writes exclusively for the KM Group

I found out an hour before kick-off I wouldn’t be involved against Yeovil on Tuesday. It was disappointing, but there were reasons behind that and I respect the manager’s decision.

I wasn’t expecting to be dropped from the squad but it’s happened and I’ve just got to move on and work hard to get back in.

People react to being dropped in different ways. Some people can sulk a bit and some people can take it on the chin and work that extra bit harder, doing extra bits in training or on your days off to try and be fitter and better than the other players because that’s what you’ve got to do to get back in.

It was obviously a disappointing result and a pretty embarrassing performance at Stevenage in the FA Cup last weekend.

The manager’s come out and said some stuff – that he said to us - that might have been a bit close to the mark.

It shows how passionate he is about the club and how much he wants us to do well and that’s a good thing.

My loan from Chelsea is up in January and I haven’t spoken about it with anyone yet. I suppose the time is coming soon when I do have to make a decision.

Any player wants to be a winner and if we’re around the top it would be lovely to stay and get promotion or even win the league.

The main thing is I need to be playing. I can’t afford to be sitting on the bench or out of squads.

I’m not going to lie, I thought Chelsea would have turned things around before now. They’ve lost a lot of games but I do think Jose Mourinho is the right man.

When things aren’t going right these stories come out that he’s lost the dressing room but I don’t think that’s the case.

When I’ve been around him everyone seems to love him and there’s loads of jokes going around.
