Medway and Maidstone finish in top three after latest UK Youth Development League fixture at Julie Rose Stadium

Medway and Maidstone’s junior athletes finished third in their latest UK Youth Development League, Southern South Division 2 clash at Ashford, writes Alan Newman.
M&M achieved 21 individual victories in the Julie Rose Stadium, but league leaders Ashford and Thanet were strong on home territory and won the match with 598.5 points.
Team Sussex (519pts), M&M (374), Horsham Blue Star (315), Bexley (291.5), Dartford Harriers (182) and Invicta/Paddock Wood (142) completed the standings.
Winners in the under-20 men’s category for M&M were Sammy Goosani (51.22sec, PB) and Joseph Burton (54.78) at 400m; Max Read (4min42.87sec, PB) in the B-string 1,500m; Lewis Heffernan (58.96 PB) in the 400m hurdles and George Clements (10.23m, PB) in the shot.
The under-17 men’s winners were Darryl Wright (11.81) at 100m; Wright (23.17, PB) and Joseph Burton (23.31, PB) at 200m; Jake Berry (2.08.41) and Ryan Maunders (2.13.40) at 800m; Marley Godden (4.38.83) and Cameron Payas (4.50.83) at 1,500m and Alexander Lindfield (11.02.74) at 3,000m.
Maximum points were also gained in the under-20 women’s events by Imogen Munday (59.83, PB) at 400m.
Women’s under-17 highlights included victories by Darcy Kuypers (12.52) and Jazmin Salter (12.87) at 100m; Kuypers (25.28, PB) and Salter (26.16) at 200m; Sian Keegan (43.07) at 300m and Laura Arnold in the shot (10.04) and javelin (32.80).
There were also wins in relay action on the track for the under-17 women’s 4x300m quartet (2.54.49) and the men’s under-20 4x400m squad (3.37.3).
