Gillingham defender Jack Turner has ended speculation about his future by signing a new contract.

The length of the deal has been described by the club as "for a few more years" as Tucker's current contract was due to run out at the end of this season.

News of the new deal comes on the same day that Gillingham chairman Paul Scally revealed the club had turned down an offer from a Championship club for the highly-rated 20-year-old.

Tucker said: "I’ve had a fair few chances with the gaffer this season and he’s put faith in me. This is just where it starts, I need to push on and the future is bright.

“I’ve learned an awful lot from the likes of Max Ehmer and Barry Fuller; they have been very helpful.”

Tucker has made 18 appearances for the Gills this season, having made his debut in October 2017 against Portsmouth.

Gillingham boss Steve Evans has always maintained that Tucker's best option was to sign a deal to stay at the club for the long-term.

"We have been talking to Jack for a couple of weeks, his family are great people and he made it clear that he was happy to do it," said Evans.

"With no midweek game, it was an ideal opportunity for us to talk more in regards to future development and he signed his extension. He’s here for a few more years, credit to him. He deserves it.”
