Goalscorer Bradley Dack believes the team have learned their lessons from past mistakes.

The Gills bagged a point on the road at Walsall having gone away empty-handed from a similar position at Port Vale a month before.

Gillingham were pushing for a winner against Vale during their January 3 fixture but conceded in stoppage time, losing 2-1.

On Sunday at Walsall they kept it tight at 1-1 and walked away with something to show for their efforts.

Dack, who nutmegged the keeper to score, said: “We are trying to learn from our mistakes and it shows how far we have come under the caretaker management.

“It was good to get the point and we didn’t concede in the last minute. That has been our downfall in some games this season.

“We are going home with a point and we are happy with that.

“It was a tough start and we didn’t have the best of first halves. We did well to go in at 0-0 and we regrouped.”

Dack put the Gills ahead on 69 minutes, with a cool finish, converting after running onto John Egan’s ball through the defence.

“John had played the ball through to John (Marquis) and Cody (McDonald) but they were offside,” Dack said.

“I made a late run and managed to slide it through the keeper’s legs.”

It was Dack’s sixth goal of the season and he is chasing another four to reach an important milestone.

He said: “As an attacking midfielder I like to get into double figures, that’s what I look for in a season. I am four away and hopefully I can get that before the end of the season.”
