High winds and low pressure made for challenging conditions during round six of the Wigmore CC Evening 10 mile time trial series.
A dozen riders braved the conditions on the Iwade circuit last Wednesday and it was Phil Appleby who again topped the podium.
Appleby had won the week before and he negotiated the five laps of the two-mile circuit in 24min49sec. That time just edged out the quick Ed Everall by 12 seconds.
Jamie Harris took the third step on the podium with a 25.21.
Harris, like all the other riders on the night, found themselves over half a minute slower than their previous week’s efforts, due to the nagging wind which made fast cycling tough going.
Last year’s ladies evening 10 trophy winner Kate Savage returned to the racing scene and posted a 27.29. Savage has gone a lot quicker than that, but considering the high winds and a long time since her last race, she will be pleased with her effort.
Former evening 10 series winner Richard Masters is continuing his comeback and finished with a strong sixth place in 27.01.
Craig Millward made an excellent first race debut for Wigmore Cycling Club, finishing seventh, just four seconds behind the very experienced Masters.
Round six results: 1 Phil Appleby 24.49, 2 Ed Everall 25.01, 3 Jamie Harris 25.21, 4 Steve Penny 25.38, 5 Julien Barton 26.28, 6 Richard Masters 27.01, 7 Craig Millward 27.05, 8 Duncan Tippins 27.10, 9 Dave Bishop 27.22, 10= Dave Wastall 27.29, 10= Kate Savage 27.29, 12 Steve Harman 27.45.
