Chatham return this weekend to the scene of their two most ill-fated incidents in recent times.

They make the short trip to play Romford in Ryman League Division 1 North at Thurrock’s Ship Lane ground.

It’s the venue where Matt Solly broke his ankle in several places on New Year’s Day, forcing the fixture against Thurrock – Romford’s landlords – to be abandoned.

And the last time Chatham played Romford there, in October 2013, Corey Holder had to have his spleen removed after his elbow went into his side following an innocuous challenge.

Chatham manager Kevin Watson admitted: "We’ve had a few incidents at their ground. Matt Solly broke his leg and Corey Holder lost his spleen, so there’s been a bit of drama there.

"But it’s a nice ground, with a nice playing surface. It’s not a bad place to go in terms of the facilities, so it’s not somewhere you’d want to stay away from."

Lewis Knight, Gary Tilley and Holder all return on Saturday after missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Cheshunt.

Watson made a rare start in that game because his squad was so threadbare and he could feature again at Romford.
