Gillingham’s weekend visitors Doncaster Rovers have sold out their away allocation in what will be a huge game for them on Saturday.

Rovers are on a great run of form and have surged into play-off contention. The South Yorkshire side will be backed by 1,500 fans at Priestfield in the final game of the regular season.

The Gills have missed out on a League 2 play-off place themselves and struggled for wins in the last few weeks of the campaign. Gillingham’s own hopes were ended at Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Doncaster were originally handed 865 tickets for the match at Priestfield but they soon sold out and on Monday the club announced an additional 634 tickets had been received. They have also now gone after being put on sale on Tuesday morning.

The capacity in Gillingham’s Town End – where the away supporters are housed – is limited due to the top section being out of action.

Rovers have won their last nine games and are away to Colchester United tonight (Tuesday). A positive result will see them move inside the top seven and the play-off positions ahead of their visit to Priestfield.

Gillingham’s minimum target this season was the play-offs but they’ll head into the weekend starting from 11th place in League 2.

The Gills last ended a home campaign at Priestfield in the 2021/22 season when they were beaten 2-0 at home by another South Yorkshire side, Rotherham United. That match was marred by crowd trouble as the Millers sealed League 1 promotion and the Gills were relegated.

Following trouble that day more than 20 people ended up in court with punishments ranging from unpaid work to jail time and suspended sentences.
