Billy Bingham hasn’t broken his foot, as Gillingham first feared.
The former Crewe player kicked the bottom of an opponent’s boot last Saturday at Doncaster, suffering what turned out to be bone bruising.
He might not be out long term but this weekend’s game at home to Bradford could be too early.
Head coach Ady Pennock said: “Luckily it is just bad bruising. We thought that maybe he had a little break.
“It was a nasty one when he kicked the bottom of someone’s foot and so against studs, that was always going to be sore.”
He isn’t the only player Gills are monitoring.
Fellow midfielder Lee Martin has four stitches in his knee following the Doncaster draw and he also sat out the midweek game at Reading.
“It was a nasty challenge and his knee is still stiff from the stitches,” said Pennock during the week.
“I didn’t want to risk him. We will have to see what he’s like on Friday.”
Mark Byrne also missed the game with a sore hip while Luke O’Neill needs checking after limping off in the week.
