The floodlights were turned on at Hollands & Blair’s Star Meadow ground for the first time last Thursday night.

The club were denied promotion to the Southern Counties East League last summer as their ground wasn’t up to standards. Now only one thing stands in their way – winning the title again!

“We’ve finally got the ground up to scratch and now we’ve got to fulfil our side of the bargain,” said Blair first team boss Paul Piggott.

“There are a few bits and pieces still to do but they are nothing-jobs really.

“We want to progress and this (the lack of floodlights) has been a stumbling block. It’s great for everyone at the club and for all those that have worked so hard to get this far.

“I told the players on Saturday that a few people might think this puts pressure on us, now we’ve got lights but that’s not the case.

“We want to win the league every year and there is no extra pressure. Now there is just an extra carrot that if we win the league, we are going up.”

Blair are certainly on course. They sit top of the Kent Invicta League, scoring 46 goals in their opening 12 games.
