Borstal have shown what a force they are becoming after both their 1st and 2nd XI sides claimed success in the Medway Post-Covid League.
The decision of the Kent League to scrap the 2020 season meant many clubs did their own things. In Medway, five clubs battled it out for local honours.
Borstal won both leagues with High Halstow finishing as 1st XI runners-up and Rainham the second best team in the 2nd XI league. Sherwood and Frindsbury also competed.
Borstal chairman Ian Coleman was delighted with the success.
He said: “The competition has been played in an excellent spirit with Borstal CC winning both the first and second team competitions without losing any of the eight fixtures.
“Borstal hope this paves the way to league success in 2021 with both of the Borstal Saturday sides looking for promotion in the Kent League.
“We are very pleased with the club’s progress over the past few seasons which is seeing Borstal becoming a real force in both local and the county league set-up.”
Whilst the first and second teams have been doing their stuff in the club tournament, Borstal have been fielding a third team on a Saturday, following an influx of new players and the on-going promotion of Colts into both the Saturday and Sunday sides.
Borstal also boasted the highest scoring batsman in the league, with Daniel Tingley leading the way after hitting 355 runs in his seven games. He wasn’t bad in the field either, claiming nine catches, two more than the next best, Sherwood’s Jake Hobbs.
Max Bullock wasn’t far behind Tingley with the bat, hitting 341 in seven outings, his best being a knock of 127.
High Halstow’s Andrew Maurice (339), Ashley Cockerton (Borstal, 286) and Aaron Hawkins (Rainham, 268) completed the top five.
David Jones top scored, hitting an unbeaten 160 for High Halstow 2nd XI, but still ended up on the losing side that day, with Rainham winning by seven wickets.
Borstal also topped the table when it came to wickets taken, with Sam Pepper and Tarvinder Bahia taking 14 wickets each. Five others took 13 and they were Sherwood pair Thomas Bulbrook - with best figures in the league of 7-26 - and Richard Gentry, along with Rainham players Chris Small, Henry Grundy and George Mottram.
Grundy (6-5) and Mottram (6-18) both claimed six-wicket hauls.
