Kevin Hake was satisfied as Chatham came away with a point on Saturday from their entertaining goalless draw at Sittingbourne in Isthmian South East.

Chats twice hit the woodwork at Woodstock, once in the first period from skipper Jack Evans and once when midfielder Fabio Saraiva headed against the post, while player-assistant manager Danny Kedwell also forced a fine late save from home goalkeeper Matt Cafer.

But Nick Davis’ Brickies had their chances, too, and chairman-manager Hake was content to leave with a share of the spoils from the Kent derby.

“It’s always difficult to come away to a local rival - they have played in this league for God knows how long - they’re seasoned at this level,” Hake said. “Nick’s a great manager, he’s always going to have a good team.

“To come away with a 0-0 - we have got to look on reflection that it’s a clean sheet, we remain unbeaten for four in the league so we are going on a bit of a run - so I’m pleased with that.”

In-form right-sided player Donvieve Jones had a goal disallowed for Sittingbourne during a match which had virtually everything but a goal, with Chatham goalkeeper Ben Bridle-Card kept busy throughout as well as opposite number Cafer.

Hake reflected: “It was a typical derby really, wasn’t it? End-to-end stuff.

“As 0-0s go, it was pretty entertaining for everyone so I’m sure the locals will go away happy. A draw was probably a fair result on reflection.

“Either team could have nicked it but we are quite pleased with that [a point].”

Sixth-placed Chatham visit Ashford, who are second, in the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday.

But asked if he intended to make changes for the tie and tinker significantly with his pack, Hake replied: “No, definitely not.

“We still are in two cup competitions and we’ll look to progress as far as we can in those tournaments.”
