Gillingham are hoping to have loan defender Baily Cargill available soon.
The Bournemouth defender signed at the end of August but was undergoing treatment for a groin injury at the time.
With the Gills knowing they were unable to sign new contracted players until the transfer window reopened in January, they agreed a deal anyway.
Cargill’s recovery took longer than expected but was expected to feature for Bournemouth’s development side on Wednesday.
A Bournemouth XI was due in action against Peterborough in a Central League fixture but that game has now been postponed.
Gillingham were hoping a run-out would give him some valuable minutes on the field ahead of the FA Cup game against Brackley Town.
Gills boss Justin Edinburgh had hoped to name Cargill in the squad for the FA Cup clash.
Speaking before the Bournemouth game was called off, Boss Edinburgh said: ”His fitness is good and all being well he would be able to take part in the squad for Saturday.
“We don’t know whether he will be able to start (on Saturday) but if he gets what we hope on Wednesday then he could be in the squad.”
Edinburgh may now choose to wait until the Checkatrade Trophy match against West Brom before introducing the young defender.
With Chris Herd suffering with a groin injury of his own, and unlikely to feature at the weekend, Cargill's availability would give Edinburgh extra options in defence.
