A mid-season break could be timed right for some of Gillingham’s key players.
Bradley Dack is one of those looking to finally rid himself of a niggling injury and with two blank weekends he’s one of those boss Justin Edinburgh will be looking to return in peak condition.
Edinburgh said: “What we are hoping is that we have now got him up to speed in games and over the two weeks we can fine-tune him so he is firing.”
Dack has been suffering with a groin injury and Edinburgh has been cautious since his return.
“There is no doubt the quality he has," he added.
"I took a bit of a decision to play him wide, to take him out of the rough and tumble, so to speak, because when he goes in that middle, like he did last Saturday, he is involved in everything.
“He has so many contacts and he has so much involvement in the game, for long periods.
"Taking him wide, we just tried to get him through minutes while still being in the game and being effective, but not as involved.”
The Gills are not back in action until travelling to Bolton next Monday.
“We’re using this period very intensively,” said Edinburgh. “There has been a lot of preparation gone into it, with the sports science and the medical side.
“It gives us a good chance to really fine-tune the players who have had a lot of minutes and played a lot of football and bring up to speed those who haven’t.
“It’s a really good period for us ahead of a really busy December/January.”
