Manager Justin Edinburgh already has his eye on transfer targets for next season.

Gills have only lost three games since Edinburgh was appointed manager in February, picking up 24 of a possible 45 points on their way to ninth in League 1.

But the former Spurs man is looking to be proactive by strengthening his squad during the close season.

Edinburgh said: "We have got our eyes on certain players. As staff, we’ve got our minds made up about who’s staying and who won’t be offered contracts for next year.

"But we’ve got two more important games before that and once that’s done, we can address that situation.

"You always take the form from the end of one season into the next and we want to carry on the momentum. We’ve had something like three defeats in 18 games since the turn of the year, which is some going. If we were to mirror that throughout, we’d be play-off contenders.

"We’ve got to look at that and make sure we start next season with that form because that’s the business end as well.

"We’d like to carry on the momentum and take points from the next two games and finish on a high here, a week on Sunday against Notts County."

Gills have gone four games unbeaten – so will Edinburgh be sorry to see the season end?

"Possibly," he said. "But some of the younger players need a rest.

"It gives me a chance for the recruitment we’re going to require for next year, to try to make us better. We’ve got a busy summer ahead."
