Swansea City v Gillingham FA Cup: Former Newport midfielder Mark Byrne gunning for another Welsh side

Mark Byrne would love to knock another of South Wales’ finest out of the FA Cup.

The Gills midfielder knows the area well, having played two years at Newport County.

He helped the Gills knock Cardiff out of the FA Cup at the third round stage and sees no reason why Swansea can’t be next.

Byrne, 30, said: “It will be a good atmosphere there and I know

one or two lads at Swansea as well, it is something to look forward to.

“The gaffer has got the draw he was looking for and hopefully it will be a good day out for us and we can win it.

“It seems that against teams we are not expected to do well against we seem to do well. Teams in and around us are ones we need to be picking up points against.

“We know Swansea will be good but you don’t know what can happen in the FA Cup.

“The Cardiff game was probably the best atmosphere I have known here at Priestfield, it was brilliant that day and hopefully the fans will have another good day out at Swansea.

“After that we have a very important (league) game against Accrington. There are a lot of vital games coming up.”
