Gillingham will face a trip to Plymouth Argyle in the opening round of the Capital One Cup.
The draw for the first round took place on Tuesday morning, 24 hours before the Football League fixtures are announced.
Round one matches are due to take place on the week commencing August 10.
The Gills last made the 255-mile trip to Plymouth in November 2012, drawing the League 2 match 2-2, thanks to a late Adam Barrett equaliser.
The sides last met in the League Cup in 2009, with goals from Simon Jackson and Andy Barcham earning them a 2-1 win at Priestfield.
Gillingham won 2-1 at Yeovil Town in last season’s first round, thanks to goals from Aaron Morris and Brennan Dickenson.
Over 10,000 fans packed into Priestfield for the second round match against Newcastle United, where the Gills were narrowly beaten 1-0.
Gills boss Justin Edinburgh tasted defeat in the first round of the competition last season while at Newport County. His former side lost 3-1 at Reading.
The Gills were seeded for the opening round, meaning they avoided any potential match against the bigger sides in the competition, including Queens Park Rangers.
Gillingham and their fellow League 1 rivals will be hoping they can emulate the run that Sheffield United produced last season, making it to the semi-finals of the competition, pushing Tottenham Hotspur all the way.
We will have news here of the Football League fixtures from 9am tomorrow.
