Gillingham’s reward for their penalty shootout win over Crawley is a home tie in round two.
The Gills were in the draw with some big teams from the Premier League including Arsenal - those not in European competitions - but will host last season’s League 2 title winners Cheltenham Town.
Second round Carabao Cup ties are to be played on week commencing August 22.
Gillingham beat Crawley Town on penalties after Tuesday’s match finished 2-2 after normal time.
The youngsters shined in the win with Gerald Sithole scoring on his first start for the club and Harvey Lintott netting the crucial penalty on his debut as the Gills won the penalty contest 10-9.
Evans’ side reached the third round last season after beating Southend United and then Coventry City. They were knocked out by Stoke City.
