Robert Caswell produced the dominant performance he’d been looking for to beat Kasey Bradnum last weekend and can now focus on an exciting 2025.
The 24-year-old is going through a rebuild following February’s defeat to Michael Webber-Kane in their Southern Area super featherweight title contest. Caswell broke his hand in his next fight while seeing off Karl Sampson on points and was determined to end his year on a high against Bradnum.
He did just that, with the Chatham boxer putting his opponent down twice over four rounds at York Hall, to comfortably win 40-33 on points.
Caswell, who now has a record of 10-1 in the pro ranks, said: “I put him down early in the first round and then again in the last and he got a point deduction as well [for holding in the third] so there was no way he was winning that one.
“The fight got moved down last minute to four rounds from six, there were a few problems on his side, it was out of my control really. I was getting to him at the end so I would have probably stopped him in the next round, or the one after.
“I am over the moon and the performance was the main thing. The win was important but I wanted to perform and I think that’s something that’s been lacking this year, so it is good to get the win but to have performed and look good with it, I am really happy with that.
“I showed a side that I haven’t really shown this year, I was on the front foot a lot and quite aggressive. I’m pleased I was back to my best and it puts me in good stead for next year.
“There were no problems with the hand, it was all good. I can try and get some momentum going now, so it’s not stop-start and hopefully get out early February and in April maybe, two in quick succession.
“I was back in the gym on Monday for the first time, I will just tick over until Christmas and then into a proper training camp from the first week of January.”
Caswell’s got a plan mapped out for 2025 that could include a stadium show at Chatham Town in the summer where he’d be looking to fight for a title.
Prior to that, he’s looking to get out again twice in the spring, with a six and then an eight-round contest.
Caswell said: “It’s just about rebuilding and then I will be back ready for title fights.
“I want to just try and get a title under my belt in 2025 but I am doing it slowly, I am still young.
“There is no harm in taking a little more time and doing it properly and being ready from summer time next year.
“To have the backing from Chatham Town is so good. I have always gone and watched them and now they are coming to watch me box. If I can get the fight at the stadium it would be unbelievable.
“I have got something to focus on, I have a plan going into the new year.
“I feel like I have been stuck in mud a little with the injury and the loss, I couldn’t see where my career was going at times, but now I’ve got a roadmap going into 2025. I can picture how it’s going to go.”
