Gillingham chairman Brad Galinson will meet the shortlisted candidates for the manager’s job next week.
The US owner is expected back in the country early next week.
Keith Millen has been in temporary charge since Neil Harris was sacked on October 5. He’s likely to remain at the helm for at least the next two games, with the Gills hosting Notts County on Saturday and playing away against Swindon on Tuesday night.
The Gills could potentially have a new manager in place ahead of their home game against Newport County on Saturday, October 28.
Mr Galinson updated fans with a short message on how their process is going.
“We are near the end of interviewing 20+ candidates,” he stated.
“I will meet those shortlisted personally next week. We are being thorough.
“I understand the importance of this appointment & appreciate your patience.”
He confirmed that Millen would be in the dugout on Saturday.
A previous message to supporters said that they were “being methodical and vetting candidates from around the world,” adding that they were not rushing the process.
He also insisted it would be him making the decision who was going to be the next new manager.
Interim boss Millen was sent off last week at Walsall, for a trip on a home player when he went to take a quick throw.
He’s been charged by the FA for misconduct, alleging that his “behaviour during the 28th minute was improper.”
He has until this Friday (October 20) to provide a response and is likely to want to appeal any sanction that may arise.
Millen was unable to speak to the press last Saturday, in line with EFL guidelines following a red card, but is expected to address the media again on Thursday ahead of the Notts County game.
