Chatham Town face back-to-back away games after a run of three straight home wins.

Victories over Whitehawk, Wingate & Finchley and Enfield Town in their last three games leaves Chats second in the Isthmian Premier table ahead of a trip to mid-table Canvey Island tonight (Tuesday).

Kevin Hake’s side leapfrogged Enfield into second place after their weekend win, 11 points behind leaders Hornchurch.

It was another impressive win for the Chats, in front of another 1,000-plus crowd at the Bauvill Stadium, and while manager/chairman Hake is thrilled at their form at the higher level, bigger targets remain.

Following their weekend win, Hake said: “All credit must go to the boys as we knew that Saturday would be a tough game against Enfield and we had to be at our best to take the three points.

“We have made a great start to this season’s campaign that we could have only dreamed of.

“We work all the players immensely hard, whether it be in training or games, and this group of lads just keep coming back for more. They show great character as we continue to look to improve every week.”

Jack Evans put Chatham ahead on Saturday from a free-kick and although Enfield quickly levelled, Jamie Yila netted from the penalty spot to put the hosts back in front with less than half an hour gone.

That’s how it remained until Chris Dickson netted their third with 15 minutes left, the score finishing 3-1 to Chats.

Hake will want his side to keep the heat on the league leaders and said: “We don’t want to take the easy route and be complacent and set our targets to simply consolidate. That’s not in the DNA that is embedded at Chatham Town.

“We always try and aim high as we continue to strive for more success.

“The job as far as I’m concerned is nowhere near done. We aren’t getting carried away with ourselves, as we only have two promotions out of the five that are required to get into the Football League, but we continue to take small steps every day as we look to constantly improve.”
