Chatham Town boss Kevin Hake believes this weekend’s trip to Horsham is the perfect chance for them to bounce back.
Chats were unable to make the most of their own chances in front of goal last weekend as they fell to a 4-1 home loss to Cray Wanderers.
Hake’s men now face the first of successive away Saturdays against teams chasing the Isthmian Premier Division title.
First up is a trip to third-placed Horsham, who are two points adrift of leaders Dartford.
Hake said: “It was a tough day at the office for the boys on Saturday.
“I’m not sure I’ve been involved in a game where we’ve created so many chances and only scored one goal.
“Fair play to Cray on returning the 4-1 defeat we inflicted at their ground.
“They were clinical in their chances but our defenders know they should have done better.
“We now look to the Horsham game this Saturday which we know will be tough as they are fighting for the title.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for us to bounce back and put some points on the board.”
Chats had new loan signing Harry Webster in their team for the game against Cray but he inadvertently scored in his own net. His 19th minute own-goal was the second for the visitors.
Remi Sutton added a third for Cray before the break and Soul Kader added their fourth five minutes after the restart.
Sam Sene Richardson pulled one back for Chats shortly after conceding the fourth.
Chatham have let Josh Chambers depart after a brief stint at the club.
Chambers joined Chatham a month ago but has now switched to Isthmian South East play-off chasers Sheppey United.
The 21-year-old could make his debut for them on Saturday against league leaders Ramsgate.
*Chatham Town Women were held to a goalless draw on Wednesday night away at Dulwich Hamlet.
They have been replaced at the top of the Division 1 South East table by Norwich City who they lost against at the weekend.
Chatham are away to Aylesford Ladies in the Kent Cup semi-final this Sunday (2pm).
