Orji has been loaned back to Chats for the rest of the season while training full-time with the Gills.
Following the move to Priestfield, Chatham released a club statement, saying: “Ike has been part of the first team set-up since he was 16 and we’re delighted that he has the opportunity to progress his career at a Football League club.
“Chatham Town is a club that has and always will promote youth.
“Ike joins a long list of footballers that have started their career at the Chats and have gone on to become professional footballers.
“Everyone involved with Chatham Town would like to wish Ike well for the future.”
