Chatham Town win Project of the Year award in the FA Grassroots Football Awards following their response to Covid-19

Chatham’s Town have won a national award in recognition of their response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The club helped with deliveries and offered support for those in the community during the initial lockdown last year and their efforts haven’t stopped, with numerous other projects going on at the Southern Counties East Football League club.

The FA’s ‘Project of the Year’ category was part of the Football Association's Grassroots Football Awards.

Chatham responded to the award on twitter, writing: “On behalf of everyone at CTFC we are proud to be recognised by the Kent FA in winning this award for works we do in the community.

“It’s been a difficult year for everyone but we are getting through this together one step at a time.”

Whether it was a need for someone to chat with, a food bank, a food delivery service or an errand service, the club were willing to do their bit when Covid-19 restrictions came into force for the first time.

One of their supporters, Russell Kimble - a qualified mental health first aider, also offered counselling to anyone in need.

At the time Chats said: “As a community club we want to ensure our supporters and their loved ones feel they have a person they can talk to, whether that is via email, over the phone or even via a video chat.”

Chats have recently teamed up with the Gillingham Street Angels and have also been working with local charity Club AUsome in helping raise awareness around autism. Autism awareness week started on Monday.
