Chatham Town assistant boss Peter Hawkins hopes additions to the squad will help solve problems endured last season

Chatham enter the new season hoping to have solved some of the problems which blighted their 2014/15 campaign.

Kevin Watson’s side were battling at the wrong end of Ryman League, Division 1 North, last season, finishing in 21st position.

Chats have been switched to the South division this year and assistant boss Peter Hawkins hopes their summer transfer business makes them more competitive.

He said: “A big issue for us last season was the goalkeeper area. There were mistakes made that cost us goals and points. The forward area was another key area for us as we didn’t score enough.

“We’ve added to the strike force and if there are other strikers out there, then we will take a look at them.”

Goalkeeper Dean Warford arrived over the summer from the now defunct Woodstock Sports FC. He started last Saturday’s pre-season game against Dagenham which ended 1-1 and will challenge Ryan Nicholls for the No.1 spot.

“We know all about Ryan and we just need to see a bit more of Dean now,” said the Chatham assistant boss.

Centre-forward Andrew Dalehouse has arrived to try and help get Chatham firing up front. He is one of several former Chipstead players to make the switch to Maidstone Road. Jack Jeffrey is back at the club to add options in the attacking department.

Kwarbena Osei is another new arrival, a player who can hold down several different positions. Departures include defenders Greg Benbow and Richard Davies.

Chatham start their campaign oat Peacehaven and Telscombe on Saturday.
