Manager Paul Piggott claims Chatham will fight on until the end, despite their Ryman League survival hanging by a thread.
Should Chatham fail to win at home to Molesey on Saturday, or Guernsey avoid defeat at Faversham, Piggott’s side will finish in the Division 1 South relegation zone.
Even if they do win, they will need to take maximum points from their final two games of the season and hope Guernsey lose both of their remaining matches to seal a remarkable escape.
Chatham kept their hopes alive on Saturday when Ricky Freeman scored the only goal at Chipstead while Guernsey lost 3-2 at home to Horsham.
Piggott said: “Throwing the towel in last Saturday was not an option and the players showed that.
“We still have an outside chance of finishing outside the bottom three. Guernsey have got three tough games in Faversham, Dorking and Greenwich, so you never know.
“We have to keep going, keep fighting and make sure we win our games. It’s no good if they lose all three if we don’t win our own games.”
One player set to retain his place is Josh Gibson.
Piggott said: “He’s been in the under-21s all season but he came in at centre midfield and played out of his skin. He played like he had a point to prove.
“It’s difficult at the moment, planning for next season, not knowing where we’ll be and it’s not something we’re really concentrating on.
“But I do have one eye on next season and players can prove their worth now.
“We still have a job to do. We have got to bring the same determination as we did on Saturday, give them a game and make sure we get something.”
