The Chatham Town hierarchy will meet on Tuesday to decide what outcome to take after being put in the Ryman League, Division 1 North next season.
The proposed constitution in the Ryman League was announced last Friday – putting Chatham in with clubs as far north as Wroxham, on the Norfolk Broads.
One glimmer of light, however, was the controversial decision to also put Sittingbourne in the northern division, along with VCD and Erith & Belvedere – who were both promoted from the Kent League this season.
Chatham chairman Jeff Talbot said: “It was disappointing news but we’ve seen in the past that things can change and odd things can happen.
“If it stays the same, then things have changed slightly, with four Kent clubs in the league and that makes things better than what they could have been.
“It doesn’t make a fantastic difference but there is some light at the end of the tunnel at least.
“I have listened to what the manager and the players have had to say and they were quite positive. We are not looking at it negatively. We’ve got to look at the numbers now and the budget and how things stack up."
