Chesterfield v Gillingham League 2 match called off after Sunday morning pitch inspection

Gillingham’s game at Chesterfield has been called off following an early morning pitch inspection.

Chesterfield conducted a 7.45am inspection of their pitch and following overnight snow, and wet conditions ahead, it’s been decided to call it off. The early decisions means the majority of away supporters haven’t had to travel.

Gillingham fans were due to make the three and a half hour trip to Chesterfield on Sunday morning ahead of a 3pm kick off.

A new date will be announced in due course.

For many Gills fans, it’s been welcomed, due to the club’s poor form and the hope that new signings will be in place when the game is rearranged.

The Gills have lost their last three matches, the last being Thursday’s home defeat by Bromley at Priestfield Stadium.

With three straight defeats themselves and missing key men through injury, many Chesterfield fans will be happy with the decision too.

Gillingham return to action next Saturday (January 11) when they host Fleetwood at Priestfield.
