Adedeji Oshilaja turned back the years with another goal for the Gills on Saturday.
The central defender, on a half-season loan from Cardiff City, is rekindling the goalscoring form that he enjoyed as a kid.
His late goal against Peterborough was his second of the season.
Oshilaja said: “When I was younger I was actually an attacker and I have always tried to score goals. That has started to happen in the last few seasons.
“It is nice to get on the scoresheet but it’s nice to keep clean sheets as well.
“The manager encourages myself and (fellow central defender) John Egan to get forward and with Josh Wright sitting infront of us he can cover us.
“He (the manager) tells us to go forward and express ourselves and that helps. It makes you play with freedom and enjoy your football.”
The 22-year-old netted with five minutes left for the Gills on Saturday but it wasn’t the winner.
“It was nice to score a goal but it would have been nice to get the win,” he said.
“We weren’t at our best but it was a good point to get on the road.
“We will go again Saturday and I am sure we will get a good win there (at home to Doncaster). We have a great team ethic and you can see everyone is buzzing to be here."
