FA Cup first round draw takes place today

Gillingham will be joined by four of our non-league clubs in the FA Cup first round draw this evening.

Maidstone, Ebbsfleet, Dover and Bromley all came through the fourth qualifying round on Saturday and will be hoping to draw a big name when the balls leave the velvet bag around 7pm.

Clubs are now just two wins away from the glamour of facing a Premier League side in the third round.

Gills reached the second round last season, losing to Carlisle in a replay, having gone four years without a win in the FA Cup before that.

They're 19th in League 1 following Saturday's dramatic 3-3 draw at Doncaster, and will be ball number 21.

Ebbsfleet knocked out lower-league Worthing on Saturday with Luke Coulson scoring two of their goals at Stonebridge Road.

Manager Daryl McMahon would settle for a repeat of last season's first round draw, when Fleet were paired with Doncaster.

Maidstone became only the second team to beat Leyton Orient this season as they progressed to round one for the fifth year running.

The Stones knocked out Cheltenham last season before eventually bowing out 4-1 at MK Dons.

Inih Effiong was Dover's hero at the weekend with a late goal to see the Whites past Concord Rangers in Essex.

Andy Hessenthaler never made it this far in his first spell as manager but Dover have reached the third round twice since he left in 2010.

Bromley, who haven't gone beyond the first round since 1945, are in the hat courtesy of a 1-0 win at Gloucester City.
