Three assists from Bradley Dack helped see off Port Vale on their last visit to Priestfield.
Gillingham won 3-2 and Dack supplied all three goals in the match in February last season.
His most recent performance for the Gills, at Bradford last Saturday, again pleased boss Peter Taylor.
It was Dack’s first start in seven games but Taylor admits he’s having to keep the reins on the promising 20-year-old.
Taylor said: “I thought he played well.He helped us have the ball because of his movement and at times we had three against two in certain areas because of his fitness.
“I just want him to be consistent. There are times Bradley has come off the bench and done fantastic and there are times he started when he
hasn’t.
“Against Port Vale last season he was the best player on the park. He was fantastic. That is what the boy is capable of.
“He knows I am pretty hard on him but trying to help him. Potentially, he is a terrific player but that potential is all about end product.
“At times I try and calm him down. He wants to have a free role in the team but you have to probably be playing for Barcelona to do that.
“For us, in League 1, at times we have to be 4-4-2, we have to be 4-3-3 and you have to stay in your slots a little bit longer.
“I would love it that we were such a good team we wouldn’t have to talk about the opposition, that we could just play our way and it’s just about them stopping us. I would love that but we are not that.”
