Boss Justin Edinburgh hopes Cody McDonald’s goals can fire the Gills back into promotion contention.
The 30-year-old striker headed home the winner against MK Dons on Saturday to take his tally for the season to seven and lift Gillingham back into the top half of League 1.
And Edinburgh is confident there are more goals to come from the striker.
“I am pleased for him,” said Edinburgh. “I don’t want to curse him but we all know that Cody always finishes the season better than he starts. We just need to keep him fit.
“I am looking forward to the second part of the season from Cody because I think we’re going to see a lot of goals from him.”
While McDonald took the praise for the goal, keeper Stuart Nelson’s penalty save ensured the Gills kept a clean sheet.
Edinburgh said: “That’s a match-winning save and those are the saves you look at to win you points.
“I’m pleased for Stu because he is back to his best now. Of late he has been the mainstay behind the calmness and us having a bit of a revival.”
Another plus for Edinburgh was a busy performance from Bradley Dack, looking more like himself and providing the cross for the winner.
Edinburgh said: “I thought Dack was affective in making a lot of runs forward, which we probably haven’t seen as much this season.
"We spoke in the week about trying to free him and rather than thinking about the performance, just go and play, so that was pleasing.”
