Justin Edinburgh has emerged as a possible replacement for sacked Peter Taylor at Gillingham.
The 45-year-old former Tottenham defender is currently manager of League 2 Newport County.
He has taken Newport from 23rd in the Conference to their current third place position in League 2 in just over three years.
Edinburgh’s name was first linked with the Gills vacancy following Steve Claridge’s announcement on television that he had sat next to him watching the Gills.
The Newport boss, who is based in Essex, has previously snubbed the advances of Portsmouth but hasn’t ruled out listening to the Gills.
Speaking to the South Wales Argus, he said: "I would speak to them if the call came, but it’s not a question that needs answering at this time.
“If the call comes and I do want to speak to Gillingham I will be open and honest, but until that call comes, there is no conversation to be had.”
Edinburgh came in second place when we polled fans as to who they would like as a new manager.
