Gillingham are hoping to cause an upset in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.
The Gills under-18s meet Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Friday night.
Youth manager Mark Patterson knows his team are up against it but believes they have a chance.
He said: “We are playing against a strong Sheffield Wednesday team but we’re not going there for a day out.
“We are under no illusions how hard it will be.”
Gillingham beat Corinthian in round one before defeating Plymouth on penalties away in the second round, having twice been behind.
A third-round win over Oxford City at Priestfield followed, setting up the trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
New Gillingham head coach Ady Pennock will be at the game.
Patterson added: “We haven’t had easy games to get this far and Sheffield Wednesday will be different because we’re not the favourites.
“They beat Luton 4-0 in the last round and they are at the top end of our league. It shows just what we are coming up against.
“We will enjoy the occasion but we are going to try and win the game. If what we’ve got isn’t good enough, then at least we will have given it a go. If you put the work in, then you have a chance.”
Gillingham’s team will include Darren Oldaker, who has played eight times this season for the first team and came off the bench on Monday against Oxford United.
Fellow midfielder Bradley Stevenson has played in a Checkatrade Trophy match this season and been an unused substitute in the league, while Ben Chapman has been in first team squads this term.
Aaron Simpson has also trained regularly with the first team.
“We are a level below but we have good players, we will be prepared and trying our best,” said Patterson.
“If they take us lightly, they might find it a challenge.”
