Chatham are into the semi-finals of the Velocity Cup after coming from behind in a meeting against the side they beat in last season’s final.
In a re-run of last April’s cup final, Chatham once again got the better of Hashtag United, winning Tuesday’s game at 3-2.
The two sides met at the Parkside ground in Essex last year - home ground of the Tags - with Chatham clinching the trophy thanks to Jamie Yila’s goal in stoppage-time.
There were late goal again at Parkside as Chats fought back from going behind after Mert Apat had put Hashtag in front with 19 minutes played.
Apat was then credited with an own-goal for the equaliser although Jordy Mongoy was happy to claim it for Chatham, levelling things up in the quarter-final tie just before the break.
Reece Butler headed Chats into the lead from a corner in the second half.
A neat finish from Freddie Sears with five minutes left increased Chatham’s lead but Luke May-Parrott got one back for the hosts in the last minute.
Manager Kevin Hake said: “We’re really pleased to progress to the semi-finals after a strong performance against Hashtag United.
“As defending champions, we know every game in this competition is important, and the lads put in a fitting display to ensure we moved one step closer to retaining our trophy.
“It was a solid team effort and I was particularly impressed with the way we controlled the game and took our chances when they came.
“The boys showed great determination and commitment and it’s always pleasing to see that kind of attitude in big games.
“Now, our focus turns back to the league.”
