Justin Edinburgh feels his Gillingham side are continuing to show signs of improvement.
The Gills came from a goal down to beat Dartford at Princes Park on Tuesday night, winning 2-1.
Goals from Emmanuel Osadebe and Joe Quigley cancelled out Ryan Hayes’ first half opener.
Edinburgh said: “We are moving the ball well and there are some combinations that are starting to work and the way we are playing through the thirds is pleasing.
“We felt we got more crosses and shots in, which was lacking on Saturday and I see a progression. The levels of fitness are increasing all of the time and it is another good workout for us.”
The Gills boss is still asking for his team to be more ruthless, however.
He said: “The frustration for me is that we are getting in really good areas, good positions but we are just again having that one extra pass that is not necessary.
“There are chances there for forwards but there were balls going into the box and we probably weren’t getting across our markers.
“As a professional and a group we want to be ruthless. We are getting near now and we just want to be a bit more clinical and to have that person to be the hero and put that ball in the net.
“The second half showed (what happens) if the runs are right. Paddy and Joe both scored, two good goals, but the runs were across defenders, not trying to peel off them and that is what we are trying to encourage our forwards to do at this time.”
Young Tom Hadler played 90 minutes in goal and, apart from his clearance that went straight to Hayes and led to the opening goal, he was pleased.
“Barring that, it was a very good performance,” said the manager.
“His kicking was good, he is a new one into the group and he is learning all the time, but that is the only way you learn, by making mistakes, but he did well.”
