Gillingham captain Lee Martin was back in time to congratulate his teammates on Saturday after a quick trip to A&E.
The Gills added another point towards their tally in League 1 after an entertaining goalless draw against Oldham at Priestfield.
Martin missed most of the match after being struck in the head by the football, 12 minutes in, leaving the field on a stretcher.
Boss Steve Lovell confirmed that he was back at the club by full-time after a precautionary trip to hospital.
Lovell said: “He is fine, there is no problem with him. He will be raring to go, ready for next week.
“He was sat there afterwards shaking everyone’s hands and saying ‘well done’.
“He is a great lad, we miss him in the team, but the boys did well without him.”
The game was held up for several minutes as they dealt with Martin on the pitch, putting him in a neck brace. Lovell took to the field himself to check on his skipper.
Lovell added: “I went to see if he was all right, he said he was fine. I told him to keep his chin up, basically, well literally.
“You don’t like to see anyone get injured and there is a concern for all your players, but he was in good hands.
“As soon as I knew he was talking and all right I was fine.”
Martin has kept the captaincy under Lovell and he’s a big fan, adding: “He is a great captain, a great leader and a professional. I have all the time in the world for Marts. He is a great person to have around the club.”
Despite missing their skipper for the majority of the game, the Gills made it seven games unbeaten in all competitions now under Lovell.
He said: “It is the first time in a while we haven’t scored and not taken any chances but sometimes you have games like that. If you don’t take your chances then you keep a clean sheet and you take something from the game.”
