Gillingham have added another midfielder to their ranks on transfer deadline day.
Bristol City’s James Morton, 21, has joined on loan for the remainder of the season.
Boss Steve Evans said: "James is a very talented lad. He has signed a four-year contract at Bristol City so it demonstrates how highly thought of he is there.
“The lad has a brilliant left foot and gives us some wonderful balance in the middle of the pitch.
“Our supporters will love this lad and I am delighted he has chosen us over two clubs currently in the top six of League 1.”
Morton spent three months at Grimsby Town earlier this season, making just four league starts, before City called him back. He becomes the second player from the same Championship club to sign on loan at Gillingham, joining team-mate Robbie Cundy at Priestfield.
The newcomer progressed through the youth system at Bristol City and has had several previous loan spells, with Chippenham, Bath City and Forest Green Rovers before joining League 2 Grimsby at the end of September.
Gillingham manager Steve Evans said prior to deadline day that one of his three key targets before the window shut was a midfielder. Evans was also hoping to sign a striker and a wide player.
