Gillingham defender Lee Hodson is heading back to the Scottish Premiership.
The 28-year-old has seen little action since joining the Gills in the summer and has agreed to join St Mirren on loan for the remainder of the season.
Hodson had a choice of three clubs in the Scottish top-flight and opted for a move to one of his former clubs.
Gills boss Steve Evans praised the defender after what has been a tough time at Gillingham.
Evans said: “He has been an absolute top class professional.
“He has been in my office and he has been hurting but not complaining, not moaning, because he knows that Barry has done well in his preferred position.”
The right-back was signed by Gills boss Steve Evans following his exit from Glasgow Rangers, where he had spent two seasons, going on loan to St Mirren during his second year.
He has also spent half a season on loan at Scottish side Kilmarnock so is no stranger to football north of the border.
Hodson has found himself on the sidelines this season, limited to just seven league appearances and four starts. He was left out of the Gills squad on Wednesday night, with just six subs from the maximum seven named.
His departure will free up more funds for Evans as he looks to add some more faces to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
Evans managed to bring in John Akinde last week but recent departures from the Gills include Mark Marshall, Mikael Ndjoli and Ouss Cisse.
Out-of-favour defender Bradley Garmston remains available for transfer.
Evans is hoping to bring in a versatile defender who can compete with Barry Fuller for the right-back slot, following Hodson's departure.
