Adam Dingsdale claimed the 12 win of his professional career as boxing made a welcome return to Medway on Saturday night.
Dingsdale had a solid, if unspectacular, six-round points win over Fonz Alexander, who fights two weight divisions above the Hoo man.
The 27-year-old looked well in control for the opening four rounds before Alexander opened up to win the fifth before edging the sixth and final round.
An impressive crowd packed Medway Park to witness seven Kent fighters in action, with only Orpington’s Martin Hillman failing to win.
Ricky Rose was always in control during his 40-36 points win over Paul O’Brien. In just his second fight, the Chatham super welterweight produced a number of good combinations and showed a good workout as he always stayed one step ahead of his opponent.
Queenborough’s Dave Jones edged Paul Butlin 39-38 in a contest that could have gone either way. Jones’ quick start proved the difference as he won the first and then started well in the second.
The fight became scrappy thereafter, as Jones tired and Butlin was riled by a couple of low shots. Jones was caught by a right just before the bell in the last as Butlin gave it everything in a bid to get what he thought was a deserved victory, only for the referee’s scorecard to decide otherwise.
Hillman came out all guns blazing against Michael Stupart, who went into the contest with a 3-21 record to his name.
Dominating the first, Hillman was always looking to land and produced four or five good combinations, leaving Stupart against the ropes on more than one occasion.
Both fighters continue to trade blows thereafter, although Stupart landed regularly and was the tidier of the pair as Hillman tired on his way to a 39-38 defeat.
Perhaps the most accomplished display of the evening came from Sonny Whiting who saw off Aaron Robinson.
Neat and tidy in his work, the only blemish for Whiting came via a bloodied nose in the last. Robinson had a cut above his eye early on and never looked like troubling Whiting, whose strength proved far too much to handle.
Debutant Oli Edwards received plenty of vocal support on his way to a 40-36 points win over William Warburton. Edwards had enough in his locker from the first round against Warburton, who took plenty of shots but was able to hang on as Edwards starts to find his feet.
A left in the third by Edwards left Warburton hanging on and some good combinations in the last completed what was a promising victory.
Grant Dennis impressed with a 40-36 points victory over Lewis van Poetsch in only his third fight. The 31-year-old from Walderslade produced solid punches throughout and gave van Poetsch little respite with plenty of combinations.
Van Poetsch was given time to hold on in the third as Dennis worked behind his jab but the latter landed a good right in the last and was in control as he had the bloodied van Poetsch regularly against the ropes.
