Training ground injuries will keep two of Gillingham’s youngsters out for the rest of the season.
Right-back Josh Hare – who made a comeback to the first team recently at Crewe – and young striker Jack Sellens both picked up season-ending injuries.
Hare has ruptured his lateral ligament while Sellens has broken his ankle.
Coach Darren Hare, who is Josh Hare’s father, said: “I feel really sorry for Josh.
“He played at Yeovil (at the start of the season) and did well but he made his home debut here and got knocked out after about eight minutes. That was one disappointment for him.
“He had a steady game (last week) and then in training he flicked the ball round the corner and he has ruptured his lateral ligament.”
Hare saw a consultant on Monday and will have an operation on Friday.
Sellens has recently been on loan at Hythe.
He made his first team debut for the Gills earlier this season in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and has also twice been an unused sub in the senior side.
“It was another innocuous incident,” said Hare.
“He has slid in and broken the bottom of his fibia, almost at the point where it connects to the ankle joint. He is going to be a while as well which is a shame.”
“When players are young and have those kind of injuries you have to keep them positive and that is what we will be doing with them both so they come back better from it.”
